Visual supports and autism
For many autistic children the day is calmer when it looks the same. The same pictures, the same place, the same order.
Predictable first
A picture shows what will happen, without a long sentence to interpret. That reduces surprises at drop off, meals and transitions.
How to try it
Use the same pictures at home and, if you can, at preschool. Change one step at a time. Show the picture before you change the order.
Not a method and not care
This is support for ordinary days. It is not a certified method and it does not replace help from someone who knows your child.
Morning routine visual schedule. Visual schedule for preschool. Free to print.
FAQ
Is this TEACCH?
No. You can print a first then board, but it is not an official method and not a treatment.
Should the pictures stay the same every day?
That often helps. Change only what is actually different.
Is there free material?
Yes. The library has PDFs for morning, preschool, feelings and first then.
Tired of printing a new plan when the day changes?
In the app your child sees what happens now and what comes next. More than one adult can follow the same routine.
